Primary Biliary Cholangitis – Integrating Practice Changing Updates to Improve Outcomes Among Patients
Primary biliary cholangitis (PBC) is a chronic, inflammatory, progressive autoimmune disease that is associated with significant morbidity and mortality without proper treatment. In recent years, there have been several updates in the diagnosis, treatment, and monitoring of patients with PBC. To that end, recently, elafibranor, a peroxisome proliferatoractivated receptor (PPAR) agonist, has been approved in combination with ursodeoxycholic acid (UDCA) in adults who have an inadequate response to UDCA, or as monotherapy in patients unable to tolerate UDCA.
